Anette Norberg

Curling is a sport where the players slide stones on ice towards a target. In the world curling is a quite unknown sport, but since Sweden has (or at least had) a very good team this sport is well-known here. Anette Norberg is the best Swedish player through the ages. She has won two Olympic titles, three World Cup titles and seven European Championship titles.

Cross Country Skiing

Since we have long winters and a lot of snow in Sweden, skiing is one of the most popular sports here. It is more like a culture than a sport actually. In the cold, long, dark Swedish winter night basically all of the Swedes are watching skis on TV and to go skiing on the holidays is a must. There is a lot of different ski sports, as for example Alpine, ski jumping, cross country, biathlon and telemark. Some of the most famous Swedish skiers are Charlotte Kalla, Marcus Hellner, Anja Pärsson, Ingemar Stenmark, Magdalena Forsberg and a lot of others.

The absolutely most popular sport here is of course football. On the men´s side we are, except for our biggest star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, far away from the level of your country. On the other hand, our ladies have been really successful.

One of many not so well-known sports that are really popular in Sweden is the floorball. It is actually the second most played sport here and is almost identical to the bandy. The absolutely biggest difference is that the floorball is played inside, on the floor, while the bandy is played on ice. Both sports are also very alike the, a bit more well-known, ice hockey.

Throughout the history we have had loads of great tennis players and have therefore developed a big intrest in this sport. However, on the latest years we have not really had any top players in tennis.

Hockey is a quite famous sport in Sweden there are a lot of young kids playing it. The team where we live witch is called Frölunda has brought up a bunch of the big stars in NHL. Such as Joel Lundqvist, Erik Karlsson and Loui ericsson. The Swedish national team is one of the best in the world they have won 9 world championships gold and 19 silver. The have also won 2 Olympics gold and 3 silver.

Handball is also one of the biggest sports in Sweden. Back in 2000 the Swedish national team was pretty good and they had won 4 world championship gold. But since then they have not won that much. The best ranking for the Swedish women is a European championship silver.
